It is important to know that resins come in different forms, have unique characteristics and have varying levels of resistance to environmental and chemical factors.   • Epoxy Resin


Epoxy Resins are popular due to its high-level resistance against destruction and extremely high temperature. It also has an exceptional ability to resist corrosion caused by chemical solutions, insulate electric currents and withstand environmental factors that make a regular pipe weak and brittle. However, because of these applausive qualities, the upfront cost of the pipe is not low. This factor has made users and costumers wary about choosing this epoxy over the rest.

Epoxy resin is made up if epoxide and polyamine. Because of these two materials, this particular type of resin is both tough and durable. Many opt for epoxy resin in spite of its upfront cost because of its durability and guaranteed long service span.


  • Polyester Resin

One popular characteristic of this type of resin is its ability to cure faster in contrast to other epoxy materials and resin types. This is the reason why most contractors, homeowners and plumbing service companies require the use of such. Aquatic companies and underwater resin needs are also catered to by polyester resins. In addition to this, this type of resin is quite inexpensive and has the ability to instantly cure after installation under good weather and fair environmental temperature.

However, as a disadvantage, the resin gives off unpleasant smell when in constant contact with water making it unsafe for main line usage because is proven to cause cancer.


  • Vinyl Esther Resin

This resin is halfway between epoxy resin and polyester resin compound. It’s advantageous in its ability to be flexible. This type of resin is perfect for angled pipe needs such as turns and curves for the plumbing or sewer system. The flexibility of this product is due to the vinyl bond that makes the other ester components integrate. Because it is bendable, the pipe with vinyl ester resin has the highest resistance against forceful handling and sudden impacts without resulting to cracks and leaks in the surface.


  • Phenolic Resin

The most notable advantage of a Phenolic resin is its ability to protect its interior and protect against fire. This particular type of resin is fire-resistant. Also, it can form carbon composites that are useful to properly cure and form the pipe resin interior. However, to acquire all those advantages, the resin needs a long curing time and high-level temperature for the curing process.


  • Gel Coat Resin

Gel coat resin is made through additives to different base resins. This base resin could be vinyl, epoxy or polyester resin. The additives act as pigments that give the substance a gel-like texture.  This resin can be placed vertically and remain where it is without much expense due to its texture.
